ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Lindenwood University baseball team scored three runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth inning to claim a 7-4 series opening victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Mar. 9) at the Lou Brock Complex.
The Gorillas (8-9, 3-4 MIAA) and the Lions (8-11, 3-4 MIAA) will continue their three-game MIAA series with a 1 p.m. (CDT) contest Sunday.
Chaz Burgess went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead Pitt State's seven-hit offensive attack Saturday. Burgess, Ty Herrenbruck and Tyson Cushman each had extra-base hits in the contest. Herrenbruck, Cushman and Caleb Cox each had an RBI.
Brad Kinsey (3-1) was charged with three earned runs in 3.0 innings of work for the Gorillas. Dante Richardson allowed three runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief work, before Tyler McGrew, Dalton Weaver and Kory Haught held LWU scoreless over the final 3 1/3 innings.
