EMPORIA, Kan. -- Alex Achtermann tossed a complete game five hitter and the Pittsburg State University baseball team claimed a 1-0 victory over Emporia State University Saturday (Apr. 13) at Glennen Field.
Pitt State and Emporia State will wrap up the three-game MIAA series with a Noon (CDT) game Sunday.
Achtermann (4-5) limited the Hornets to five hits in the contest. He allowed one walk and registered nine strikeouts.
The Gorillas (19-17, 12-11 MIAA) plated the only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Greyson Pinkett drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out fielding error by the Hornets (21-14, 15-8 MIAA).
