PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University softball team swept a pair of games from the Southwest Baptist University Tuesday (Apr. 16). Gorillas defeated the Bearcats, 6-1 and 9-1 (5 innings).
In game one, starter Halle Brin (12-12) limited SBU (5-40, 2-16 MIAA) to three hits in seven innings of work. She collected eleven strikeouts and only gave up two walks.
Makenzie Goswick led the team going 2-for-3 at the plate with one home run, one run scored and two RBIs. Kaity Kukowski went 1-for-2 with a single home run and two RBI's.
Shelby Smith scattered four hits over 5.0 innings of work in the nightcap for Pitt State (23-24, 11-11 MIAA). She registered two strikeouts and only allowed one earned run.
Kala Holder went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI's to pace the Gorillas offense, while Keelah Griffith also went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
Pitt State will return to action next Friday (Apr. 25) for an MIAA doubleheader against the Northeastern State University in Pittsburg, Kan.
