PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome a 7-3 deficit and eventually claim a 9-7 victory against Northeastern State University Sunday (Apr. 7) at Al Ortolani Field.
The victory allowed the Gorillas (17-16, 11-10 MIAA) to sweep the three-game from the RiverHawks (10-24, 7-14 MIAA).
Tyson Cushman delivered a two-run single and Greyson Pinkett belted a two-run home run as part of Pitt State's five-run inning. John Oliver also had a run-scoring double in the frame.
Dante Richardson (1-1) held NSU hitless over 3 1/3 innings of relief work to earn his first victory of the season. Tanner Lane nailed down his fourth save of the season by recording the final six outs – four by strikeout – for the Gorillas.
Pinkett led the Gorillas offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Oliver was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run and two RBIs. Cushman also finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
