HAYS, Kan. — Alex Achtermann and Brendan Stanek combined on a two-hit shutout as the Pittsburg State University baseball team blanked Fort Hays State University, 12-0, to open a three-game MIAA series Friday (May 3) at Larks Park.
The Gorillas (26-19, 18-13 MIAA) and Tigers (3-38, 2-29 MIAA) will resume their series with a 1 p.m. (CDT) game Saturday.
Pitt State scored one or more runs in all seven innings of play, before the contest was halted by run-rule.
Achtermann, who allowed just one hit through five innings on the mound, led the Gorillas offensive attack by going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Chaz Burgess and Greyson Pinkett also swatted home runs for Pitt State. Tyson Cushman drove in a team-leading three runs in the contest.
