PITTSBURG — The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to break open a tie game and eventually pull away for a 78-73 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Jan. 11) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Cam Givens posted a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bronchos past the Gorillas. UCO (7-9, 4-3 MIAA) also got 10 points each from Dashon Bell, Dashawn McDowell and Colt Savage in the game.
A.J. Walker paced Pitt State (6-9, 2-4 MIAA) with 20 points, including 13 in the first half. He also dished out five assists and snared three steals. Jah-Kobe Womack and Antonio Givens II each added 17 points for the Gorillas.
The Gorillas and Bronchos combined for 39 personal fouls in the contest. Pitt State converted 17 of 25 free throws, while UCO made 19 of 29 charity shots. The Bronchos shot 57.8 percent from the field (26-45) compared to 40.4 percent shooting by the Gorillas (23-57). Pitt State forced the Bronchos into 18 turnovers in the contest.
