PITTSBURG -- A.J. Walker scored a career high 26 points to help spark the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to a 65-62 victory Newman University Thursday (Jan. 9) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas improve to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA with the win, while the Jets dropped to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Walker scored 15 of his game high points in the first half. He made 11 of 21 shots from the floor and added a team-leading eight rebounds and four blocked shots in the contest. Jah-Kobe Womack chipped in with 14 points. The Gorillas shot 47.2 percent from the field in the game, making 25 of 53 attempts.Â
Marshawn Blackmon paced the Jets (7-8, 1-5 MIAA) with 18 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Jan. 11) when Pitt State hosts the University of Central Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
