PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team outscored visiting Missouri Western State University, 12-4, in the game's final three minutes as the Gorillas rallied for a 74-71 victory over the Griffons Wednesday (Feb. 12) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Pit State (13-9, 9-5 MIAA) took the lead on Tristan Gegg's driving basket with 33 seconds remaining and Kaylee DaMitz added a pair of free throws with 10.7 seconds to play for the game's final margin. MWSU (17-6, 9-5 MIAA) turned the ball over prior to DaMitz' charity shots and the Griffons' Katrina Roenfeldt missed on a 3-point field goal attempt in the game's waning seconds.
DaMitz led the Gorillas with 21 points and seven assists, while Gegg added 19 points. Athena Alvarado (11) and Maya Williams (11) also scored in double figures for Pitt State.
Corbyn Cunningham posted game highs of 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the Griffons.
