PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will open a three-game weekend series Friday (Feb. 14) when the Gorillas entertain the University of Minnesota Crookston. The two teams will meet at 3 p.m. (CST) Friday at Al Ortolani Field and then play at 1 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 15) and Noon Sunday (Feb. 16).
Pitt State enters the weekend action with a 2-5 record. The Gorillas posted a 1-2 record in a three-game series against Winona State University last weekend. Â This will be the season debut for UMC. The Golden Eagles posted a 28-12 record in 2019.

As a team, the Gorillas enter the weekend series against UMC with a .226 batting average. Junior outfielder Brian Ohlmeier leads the squad with a .467 batting average. Senior infielder Ty Herrenbruck (.364), junior infielder Austin Bonnel (.304) and senior designated hitter Reece Garvie (.304) all are batting over .300 on the young season. Senior catcher Greyson Pinkett leads the squad with six RBIs.
Senior lefthander Tanner Lane leads Pitt State's starters on the mound with a 1-1 record and a 3.38 ERA, while junior lefthander Chandler Mauldin is 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA.
