OKLAHOMA CITY — The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a pair of close decisions on day one action of the Edmond Regional Classic 3 Friday (Feb. 21). The Gorillas fell, 6-4, to St. Mary's University and 3-1 to Oklahoma Christian University.
Pitt State (3-13) will wrap up the two-day tournament with a pair of games Saturday (Feb. 22) at Edmond, Okla., facing Midwestern State University at 10 a.m. (CST) and Cameron University at 2 p.m.
Against St. Mary's, Pitt State took a 4-2 lead only to have the Rattlers plate four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally for the win. Mackenzie Goswick paced the Gorillas offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mareika Turpen also drove in a pair of runs.
Against OCU, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 first inning lead and rode that early momentum to a 3-1 win. Goswick drove in Pitt State's lone run with an RBI single in the sixth inning.
