EDMOND, Okla. — The Pittsburg State University softball team swept a pair of games Saturday (Feb. 22) on day two action of the Edmond Regional Classic 3. The Gorillas scored a 9-6 victory over Midwestern State University and a 9-3 win over Cameron University.
The Gorillas improved to 5-13 on the season with the wins and Pitt State halted an eight-game losing streak with the game one victory over MWSU.
In game one, Pitt State overcame a 6-3 deficit with a four-run fourth inning and the Gorillas tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to claim the win. Mackenzie Goswick went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the contest, while Kaity Kukowski went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Kianna Pellegrino also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Kaylee Burnett (2-6) earned the win, while Madison Morris picked up her second save of the season with two hitless innings of relief.
In game two, the Gorillas exploded out of the gates with seven first inning runs and cruised to the victory. Keelah Griffith and Kylee Bohlee each homered in the game and drove in three runs apiece. Bohlee went 2-for-3 while Griffith went 2-for-4 to pace the Pitt State offense. Morris (2-2) went the distance in earning the win in the circle.
