PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team rolled to a pair of lopsided wins Saturday (Feb. 22) at Al Ortolani Field, defeating Truman State University, 20-5, and Upper Iowa University, 13-8.
The Gorillas (8-6) exited the day's action on a five-game winning streak.
Reece Garvie went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and six RBIs in Pitt State's victory against Truman (3-8). Chaz Burgess also went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the contest.
Chandler Mauldin (1-2) limited the Bulldogs to three hits in five innings of work, fanning five batters along the way. The Gorillas took a 20-0 shutout lead to the seventh inning before Truman plated five runs.
In game two, the Gorillas scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and, after UIU (1-3) knotted the score at 6-6 in the second inning, Pitt State slowly pulled away as the game progressed.
Garvie went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Ryan Koval homered and drove in a pair of runs. Tyson Cushman also had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Tyler Pittman went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Nick Brown (2-0) worked 4 1/3 innings of two-hit relief to earn the win. He registered five strikeouts.
