PITTSBURG -- Marcel Cherry led a balanced Pittsburg State University attack as the Gorillas claimed an 80-73 victory over the University of Central Missouri Saturday (Feb. 29) in the regular season finale at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The win helped Pitt State (11-17, 7-12 MIAA) qualify as the No. 10 seed for the upcoming MIAA Postseason Tournament. UCM ended its season at 10-18, 5-14 MIAA.
Cherry led five Pitt State players in double figures with 17 points. He made five of the Gorillas' 12 3-point field goals in the game. A.J. Walker added 16 points and eight assists, while Dejon Waters Jr. contributed 15 points with a perfect 5-for-5 game form 3-point range. Xavier Womack added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Jah-Kobe Womack also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Kendale Hampton scored a game high 22 points for the Mules, while Garrett Luinstra added 17.
