Gorillas Set to Make Home Debut Against WInona State


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will make its home debut when the Gorillas open a three-game series against Winona State University beginning Friday (Feb. 7). The Gorillas will meet at 3 p.m. (CST) Friday at Al Ortolani Field and then continue the series at 1 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 8) and Noon Sunday (Feb. 9).

Pitt State is 1-3 on the young season after opening the 2020 campaign last weekend at the Edmond First Pitch Classic at Edmond, Okla. This will be the season opening series for Winona State. The Warriors posted a 26-23 overall record in 2019. Pitt State and WSU split a pair of February games a year ago in Pittsburg.

Junior infielder Austin Bonnel leads the Gorillas with a .545 batting average to date. He one double among his six hits and a team-leading four RBIs. Senior designated hitter Reece Garvie also is hitting .385 with a double and one RBI, while junior outfielder Blain Ohlmeier is batting .375 with a double and two RBIs.

Senior lefthander Tanner Lane (1-0) leads the Pitt State pitching staff with a 1.80 ERA.
