Weekend Washburn Series Moved to Pittsburg


PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University's weekend baseball series against Washburn University, originally scheduled to be played at Topeka starting Friday (Mar. 13), has been moved to Pittsburg due to the weather. Washburn will still technically host the series at Al Ortolani Field and play as the home team on the scoreboard when the Ichabods face the Gorillas in games at 4 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and Noon Sunday.

Pitt State brings a 14-8 overall record and a 4-2 mark in MIAA play into the series. The Gorillas have posted an 11-2 record in their last 13 games after a 3-6 start to to the year. Washburn is 11-11 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA. The Ichabods are seeking to halt a three-game losing streak after being swept in an MIAA series by Missouri Southern State University last weekend at Topeka.

Pitt State is batting .283 as a team and scoring 7.3 runs per game to date. Junior infielder Mason Hartman leads the Gorillas' starters with a .342 batting average. He's scored 19 runs and leads the MIAA in stolen bases with a perfect 17-for-17 clip. Senior designated hitter Reece Garvie is hitting .320 with five doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs, while junior outfielder Ryan Koval is batting .286 with six doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs. Garvie and Koval are both tied for fourth place in the MIAA in RBIs.

Junior righthander David Henderson (2-3, 4.15 ERA) and junior lefthander Chandler Mauldin (2-2, 3.95 ERA) are expected to start on the hill in the series.
