PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Liberty Mo., Wednesday (Mar. 11) for a non-conference match-up against William Jewell College. First pitch, originally scheduled for 2 p.m. (CDT) at Talley Stadium on the WJC campus, will now be at 11 a.m. (CDT) at the Urban Youth Sports Academy in downtown Liberty.
The Gorillas are 13-8 overall heading into Wednesday's action. Pitt State posted a 3-1 record last week including taking two of three games in an MIAA series against Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Okla., last weekend. The Gorillas also picked up a 10-7 non-conference home win over William Jewell last Tuesday (Mar. 3). The Cardinals are 8-6 overall. WJC dropped two of three games in a series against Lewis University last weekend.
Pitt State is batting .287 and scoring 7.3 runs per game on the season. Junior infielder Mason Hartman leads the squad with a .343 batting average. He has scored 18 runs and he's a perfect 16-for-16 in stolen base attempts to lead the MIAA. Senior designated hitter Reece Garvie is hitting .338 with five doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs, while junior outfielder Ryan Koval is batting .300 with six doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs. Garvie and Koval are tied for fourth place in the MIAA in RBIs.
On the mound, the Gorillas sport a 5.52 ERA with 177 strikeouts in 181.0 innings of work. Senior righthander Nick Brown (3-0, 2 Sv.) leads the squad with a 2.29 ERA. He's made 10 appearances, fanning 25 batters in 19 2/3 innings of work.
