No. 4 Lopers Need Fourth Quarter Rally For 57-53 Win Over Gorillas

PITTSBURG -- The University of Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team used a 10-0 fourth quarter run to overcome a six-point deficit and rally for a 57-53 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Jan. 21) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

The unbeaten and No. 4 ranked Lopers trailed 47-41 with 7:44 to play in the game, but UNK (11-0, 11-0 MIAA) scored the game's next 10 points to go up 51-47 on two free throws by Trinity Law with 5;25 to go.

After Pitt State's Kaylee DaMitz made one of two free throws with 5:07 to go, the Gorillas (8-4, 8-4 MIAA) failed to score again until Tristan Gegg hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left. The loss snapped Pitt State's seven game winning streak

Gegg scored a team-leading 18 points to pace the Gorillas, while DaMitz added 12 points and Maya Williams added 10.

Elisa Backes posted a double double with game highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lopers.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 23) when the Gorillas host MIAA rival Fort Hays State University at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
