PITTSBURG — Martin Vogts scored a team-leading 26 points and Bobby Arthur-Williams Jr. added 22 as the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team pulled away for an 83-67 victory over Missouri Southern State University Saturday (Jan. 9) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Vogts made eight of 14 shots from the floor, including five 3-pointers, in the contest to lead Pitt State (5-4, 5-4 MIAA). Arthur-Williams scored 15 of his 22 points in the first half as the Gorillas took a 40-32 lead to the intermission. He made eight of 11 shots as well. Vogts and Arthur-Williams also shared the team rebound lead with eight apiece.
Quentin Hardrict Jr. chipped in with 10 points in the contest while Antonio Givens II added nine points in his return from a two-game absence.
MSSU's Cam Martin led all scorers with 33 points. He added a game high 11 rebounds as well.
The Gorillas and Lions (4-4, 4-4 MIAA) combined to shoot 61 free throws in a game slowed by 52 combined personal fouls. Pitt State converted 19 of 30 charity shots in the game.
The Gorillas will travel to Emporia, Kan., Thursday (Jan. 14) to face MIAA rival Emporia State University at 7:30 p.m. (CST) at W.L. White Auditorium.
