PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team opened MIAA play with a decisive win over Newman University, 88-50.

A strong first quarter performance by the Gorillas would put the Gorillas up 25-6 entering the second quarter of action. The momentum would stay with the Gorillas into half going into the locker rooms ahead 41-19.

The Gorillas would continue the domination of the Jets into the second half outscoring Newman 47 to 31 to take the game 88-50.

Four Gorillas would score in double figures. Erin Davis would lead the Gorillas with another career high performance 21 points and four assists. Tristan Gegg and Grace Pyle would both chip in 11 points. And Kareena Gerber would notch 10 points against the Jets.

For the Jets Laura Bello had 14 points and four rebounds.

Pitt State returns to action Saturday (Dec. 4) to take on Central Oklahoma at 1:30 (CST).
