PITTSBURG -- Kelsey Johnson posted game highs with 27 points and 14 rebounds and the University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 95-76 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Dec. 4) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas (5-2, 1-1 MIAA) led 37-36 at the half against the Bronchos (5-3, 1-1 MIAA), but UCO outscored Pitt State, 33-22, in the pivotal third period and the Gorillas weren't able to mount a challenge down the stretch.
Johnson made nine of 16 shots from the floor to help UCO shoot 54.8 percent (34-62) from the floor in the game. She scored 17 of her 27 points in the second half. Karly Wadsworth added 17 points on the strength of 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point range, while Aliyah Lianusa (12), Clary Donica (11) and Brooke Rayner (10) also scored in double figures.
Tristan Gegg paced Pitt State with a team best 24 points. Grace Pyle scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Jayme Jackson scored all 10 of her points in the second half.
The Gorillas will travel to Claremore, Okla., to face Rogers State University Wednesday (Dec. 8).
