ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team dropped a 68-64 road decision to Missouri Western State University Saturday (Feb. 13) at the Looney Athletic Complex.
The Gorillas (12-7, 12-7 MIAA) led 64-55 with 4:24 to play in the game, but Western (5-11, 5-11 MIAA) scored the game's final 13 points to pull out the win. Camille Evans layup with 52 seconds to play gave the Griffons the lead in the game's final minute.
Kaylee DaMitz led all scorers with 19 points to pace the Gorillas. Erin Davis added 12 points and Julia Johnson just missed a double double, posting nine points and a game high 16 rebounds.
Pitt State shot just 35.5 percent from the field in the game (22-62), including just three of 23 shooting from three-point range (.130), but the Gorillas outscored the Griffons, 17-3, at the foul line in the contest.
Brianna Budgetts and Logan Hughes led Western with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Pitt State will return to action next Saturday (Feb. 20) when the Gorillas travel to Joplin, Mo., to face MIAA rival Missouri Southern State Univesity at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
