Gorillas Roll to 78-60 Victory Over Lady Lions Saturday

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball started fast out of the blocks and never looked back in sprinting to a 78-60 victory over Missouri Southern State University Saturday (Feb. 20) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Pitt State (13-7, 13-7 MIAA) jumped out to a 28-16 lead after the first quarter, stretching the margin to 48-22 at the intermission and peaking at at 53-22 on Kaylee DaMitz's 3-pointer withy 9:27 to play in the third quarter.

DaMitz led three Pitt State players in double figures with 17 points, while Sydnee Crain added 16 and Tristan Gegg finished with 15. DaMitz added eight rebounds and three assists. The Gorillas shot 41.7 percent from the field (25-50) and converted 20 of 24 free throws in the contest.

A Johns led a balanced MSSU (7-13, 7-13 MIAA) attack with 14 points.

Pitt State will return to action next Thursday (Feb. 25) when the Gorillas host MIAA rival Emporia State University at 5:30 p.m. (CST) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
