TOPEKA — The Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games Sunday (Feb. 28) at the Washburn University Invitational. The Gorillas dropped a 4-3 decision to the University of Missouri-St. Louis before bouncing back with a 5-4 victory over Wayne State College.
In game one, Kami Zimmerman and Kaity Kukowski collected three hits apiece in Pitt State's loss to UMSL. Zimmerman drove in a pair of runs in the contest.
In game two, Keelah Griffith drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to force in the game winning run. Kukowski started the seventh inning with a one-out walk. Audrey Miller walked and Makayla Lamphier also drew a two-out walk in the frame.
Griffith went 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the contest, while Miller and Kori Stonestreet also had RBIs. Lauren Florez (1-2) earned the win pitching in relief.
