PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team gained separation midway through overtime and pulled away for an 85-77 victory over Lincoln University Saturday (Feb. 6) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Pitt State (10-7, 10-7 MIAA) won its fifth straight game on the strength of 20 points from Antonio GIvens II and 18 points from Martin Vogts. Vogts 3-pointer with 2:41 remaining in the extra session gave the Gorillas a 77-73 edge. LU (8-7, 8-7Â MIAA) never got any closer than three points down the stretch. It marks the first time since the 2004-05 season that the Gorillas have won five straight MIAA games.
Givens made seven of nine shots from the floor. He added three assists, two blocked shots and three steals. Vogts was 5-for-11 from the field and made four 3-pointers. He also finished with five assists and five steals. Quentin Hardrict Jr. also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Cameron Potts led all scorers with 27 points to pace the Blue Tigers, while Quinton Drayton added 20 points.Â
The Gorillas shot 46.2 percent from the field in the game (30-65). Pitt State also capitalized on second chance opportunities thanks to 16 offensive rebounds.
The Gorillas will return to action next Thursday (Feb. 11) when they travel to Maryville, Mo., to battle No. 3 ranked Northwest Missouri State University at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
