Gorillas pick up pair of wins over Bearcats

Maryville Mo. – The Pittsburg State University baseball team took two games from MIAA rival Northwest Missouri State Saturday. The Gorillas defeated the Bearcats 7-1 and 6-3.

Greyson Pinkett got game one started with a solo shot to left field to put the Gorillas up 1-0 in the top of the second. The Bearcats tied the game in the bottom of the sixth 1-1. The Gorillas answered with six unanswered runs in the top of the eighth.

David Henderson secured the win for the Gorillas going seven innings allowing four hits and striking out five along the way.

Game two started with a triple by Ryan Koval to lead off top of the second. Caleb Carr drove Koval in for the first score of the game. The Bearcats came back in the bottom of the second to take the lead 3-1. After a scoreless third Cruz Aranda drove in Garrett McGowan with an RBI single in the top of the fourth to put the game within one.

The conteet remained a one-score game until top of the seventh when Aranda placed a two RBI single to centerfield. The Gorillas plated two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to finish the game 6-3.

Pitcher Nick Brown went five full innings allowing four hits and struck out five Bearcats. Tyler Lane finished the games last four outs to pick up the save.

Game three of the series will be tomorrow (Mar. 21). First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
