Gorillas take series from Bronchos

Edmond Okla. – The Pittsburg State University baseball team took a series victory from Central Oklahoma taking game three on Sunday (Mar. 28), 10-5.

The three game MIAA series was tied going into Sunday's action 1-1 after a pair of games Saturday. The Gorillas started off hot early with a solo shot from Dawson Pomeroy in the top of the second, to give the Gorillas a early 1-0 lead. The Gorillas tacked on two more runs in the inning to go up 3-0. The Bronchos put up one in its half of the second.

Pitt State continued the scoring in the third. Thanks to a few Bronchos errors and a triple by Aaron Gerdes the Gorillas were now up 5-1. A few slow and scoreless innings on both ends puts the game in the sixth still with the Gorillas leading 5-1. Catcher Greyson Pinkett singled to center field to give Pitt State a 6-1 lead. Central Oklahoma plated a run in its half of the sixth and went on to score its last two runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Gorillas head into its half of the ninth up 6-5. Garrett McGowan started the inning off with an RBI single. Adam Theis doubled down the left field line to score McGowan. After a wild pitch by the Bronchos, Theis scored from third giving the game its final score of 10-5.

Jackson Blancarte who came in for starter Peyton Ingalls in the second was credited with the win moving his season record to 2-0. Pomeroy was credited with the save, his first of the season.

The Gorillas are headed back to Pittsburg for a solo game against MIAA rival Emporia State on Tuesday (Mar. 30). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Al Ortolani Field.
