Gorillas to Face Hornets in Non-Conference Tilt Tuesday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Emporia, Kan., to face MIAA rival Emporia State University in a non-conference game Tuesday (Apr. 13). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (CDT) at Glennen Field.

The Gorillas (16-10) will look to halt a three-game losing streak when they take the field against the Hornets (11-16). Pitt State dropped a three-game series against the University of Central Missouri last weekend in Pittsburg. ESU dropped two of three games in a weekend series against Washburn University.

As a team, the Gorillas are hitting .291 and scoring 7.5 runs per game. Pitt State pitchers carry a 5.54 ERA. Freshman outfielder Ryan Koval leads the team with a .359 batting average. He has scored 25 runs, driven in 30 runs and recorded nine doubles, four triples and three home runs. Junior first baseman Garrett McGowan is hitting .286 with 30 runs scored, seven doubles, seven home runs and 30 RBIs.
