Jefferson City, Mo. – The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up a pair of wins over Lincoln, Sunday (Apr. 18), 5-0, 9-1.
In game one the Gorillas started off the scoring with two runs coming across in the third. Catcher Paxtyn Hayes drove in the runs for the Gorillas with a two RBI double. Pitt State continued its scoring in the sixth after a few Blue Tiger errors. The Gorillas would plate two insurance runs in the seventh to give the game its final score of 5-0.
In the circle Kaylee Burns would get the win for the Gorillas moving her record to 8-9 on the season. Burns allowed three hits in her complete games, notching five strike outs.
The Gorillas would continue the scoring in game two taking a 9-1 run-rule victory over the Blue Tigers. The Gorillas were lead by designated player Taylor Lambert, who drove in three runs with one hit in game two. First baseman Kami Zimmerman finished game two with three hits and two RBIs.
Junior Taylor Compton would go all six innings allowing five hits and one earned run. Compton moved her record to 4-6 on the season.
The Gorillas will be back in a action Saturday (Apr. 24) when it travels to Central Oklahoma for a doubleheader with the Bronchos.
