PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to face Missouri Western State University in a three-game MIAA series Friday (Apr. 30) and Saturday (May 1). The Gorillas and Griffons will face one another at 5 p.m. Friday and then wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
Pitt State enters the series on a four-game winning streak. The Gorillas are 22-11 overall, 17-10 in the MIAA and tied for third place in the conference standings. Western is 10-23 overall and 8-19 in MIAA play.
The Gorillas are hitting .288 as a team and scoring 7.5 runs per game. Pitt State's pitching staff carries a 5.23 ERA. Pitt State ranks fourth in the league in runs scored and team ERA.
Junior outfielder Aaron Gerdes leads the team with a .378 batting average. He has hit eight doubles and driven in 22 runs. Junior first baseman Garrett McGowan (.288 BA) has belted a team-leading 11 home runs and compiled 38 RBIs. He ranks third in the MIAA in home runs and fourth in the league in RBIs.
Senior RHP David Henderson leads the Pitt State pitching staff with a 6-2 record and a 2.89 ERA. Junior RHPs Zach Curry (3-2, 5.24 ERA) and Peyton Ingalls (5-1, 5.75 ERA) each have made seven or more starts on the mound for the Gorillas this season.
