PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team fell in doubleheader action to Missouri Western State Friday (Apr 30) 7-4, 4-2.
The Griffon started the day hot at the plate scoring four runs in the first three innings of play. The Gorillas would answer back with a single run in the third after a wild pitch. Pitt State would fight its way back scoring two runs in the sixth after doubles from shortstop Kori Stonestreet and third baseman Bella Konieczka.
Missouri Western would score three runs in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead. An error by the Griffons allowed a run to come across for the Gorillas in the seventh tot give the game a final score of 7-4.
Senior Kaylee Burns was credited with the loss moving her season record to 8-11.
In game two of the twin bill the Gorillas would score early after a triple by right fielder Paxtyn Hayes scoring first baseman Lauren Florez. A Kami Zimmerman single would score Hayes from third to give the Gorillas a 2-0 lead. The Griffons would take the lead back after a four run third inning. The Griffons would go on to win the game 4-2.
Junior Taylor Compton was given the loss moving her record to 4-8.
The Gorillas will be back for its final regular season action fo the season as Northwest Missouri comes to town Saturday (May 1). Action with the Bearcats is set for Noon (CDT). Pitt State will honor two seniors, Kaylee Burns and Kaity Kukowski in between games Saturday.
