Gorillas Secure 11-1 Run-Rule Victory Over Ichabods


TOPEKA -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a 2-1 game with a five-run fourth inning and the Gorillas cruised to an 11-1 run-rule victory over Washburn University Tuesday (Apr. 6) at Falley Field.

The non-conference game, a makeup game for both squads from other contests lost to inclement weather in February, helped Pitt State improve to 16-7 on the season, while the Ichabods dropped to 8-16.

Aaron Gerdes led the Gorillas' 14-hit offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Dawson Pomeroy, Caleb Carr and Mason Hartman each had two hits. Pomeroy belted a a two-run home run as part of Pitt State's five-run fourth inning and scored twice. Ryan Koval drove in three runs in the game.

Zach Curry (2-2) allowed just five hits and one unearned run over 5.0 innings of work to earn the victory. Clay Westbrooks and Peyton Ingalls each worked a scoreless inning of relief behind Curry.
