Gorillas fall to No. 22 Hillcats

PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a doubleheader to No. 22 Rogers State, Friday (Apr. 9), 9-0, 4-3.

The Hillcats started the day off early with a four run first inning to give it the early lead.The Gorillas would struggle in game one at the plate only notching four hits in the game. The Hillcats however would hit well from the plate with 16 hits as a team in game one. While the Gorillas were held scoreless the Hillcats would go on to score five runs in the next few innings to give the game its final score of 9-0.

Senior Kaylee Burns was given the loss for the Gorillas moving her season record to 6-8.

In game two of the doubleheader the Gorillas would get started early taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second after a few Hillcat errors. Pitt State would add on another run in the third with a single by left fielder Kylee Bohle. Rogers State would tie the game at three a piece in the fifth. The Hillcats would score the winning run in the top of the seventh to give the game its final score of 4-3.

Junior Taylor Compton was credited with the loss moving her season record to 3-5.

The Gorillas will be back in action Saturday (Apr. 10) to take on Northeastern State. First pitch with the RiverHawks is set for noon at the PSU Softball Complex.
