JOPLIN, Mo. -- The University of Central Missouri baseball team broke open a 2-1 game with four runs in the third inning and rolled to an 11-2 victory over Pittsburg State University in the 2021 MIAA Baseball Championship presented by Mammoth Construction championship game Saturday (May 22) at Warren Turner Field.
UCM (39-6) captured its third straight MIAA Tournament title by posting a 5-0 record against MIAA foes in two weeks of postseason play. Pitt State (30-16) reached the championship game of the MIAA Tournament for the second time im program history -- the first finals appearance since claiming the 1999 MIAAÂ Championship.
Dusty Stroup went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to pace the Mules 15-hit offensive attack. Alex Madera had three hits and a pair of RBIs.
Cruz Aranda collected two hits and drove in a run for the Gorillas. Aaron Gerdes also had an RBI double.
Clay Westbrooks (0-1) took the loss for Pitt State. Westbrooks allowed four runs in 2 1/3 innings of work in his first start of the season.
For the Gorillas, Blain Ohlmeier, Garrett McGowan, Dawson Pomeroy and Greyson Pinkett all were named to the All-Tournament Team. UCM's Josh Schumacher was selected the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
