PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will host the 2021 MIAA Outdoor Championships May 8-9 at Carnie Smith Stadium/Prentice Gudgen Track.

The 2021 MIAA Outdoor Championships starts Saturday (May 8) at 10 a.m. (CDT) with action in the women's heptathlon. The men's decathlon competition begins at 9:45 a.m. Field events begin at Noon, while action on the track begins at 4:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the men's decathlon resumes at 9:30 a.m. while the women's heptathlon picks up at 9:45 a.m. Field events begin at 12:30 p.m. and track action starts at 1:30 p.m.
The Pitt State men enter the 2021 MIAA Outdoor Championships ranked No. 6 in the most recent USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II Top 25 poll. The Gorillas captured the 2021 MIAA Indoor Championships title and finished fifth at the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships.
Central Missouri (No. 8), Missouri Southern (No. 9) and Lincoln (No. 25) also are ranked nationally among the 11-team men's field.
The Pitt State women are one of six MIAA squads ranked among the Division II top 25. The Gorillas, who finished as the runner-up at the 2021 MIAA Indoor Championships, enter the meet 15
th nationally. Pitt State has claimed each of the last five MIAA Outdoor Championships (2015-19). MSSU (No. 4), UCM (No. 11), Fort Hays State (No. 12), LU (No. 19) and Nebraska-Kearney (No. 24) also sit in this week's national rankings list.

This will be 94
th all-time MIAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships dating back to 1924. Central Missouri holds the lead among current conference members for MIAA outdoor titles with 22, while Pitt State is second with 12.

This will mark the 39
th all-time MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships. Pitt State has claimed a conference-leading 12 MIAA indoor titles since the meet's inception in 1982. Emporia State has claimed five titles.

The meet will serve as one of the final regular season meets of the 2021 outdoor season. Qualifiers for the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships – scheduled for May 27-29 at Allendale, Mich. – will be announced later this month.
