EMPORIA, Kan. – The Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will open competition in the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday (May 21). The meet, which is being hosted by Emporia State University, runs Thursday through Saturday (May 23).
The Pitt State men are the four-time defending NCAA Division II national champions from the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 outdoor seasons. The Gorillas are ranked No. 1 in the most recent USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II National Track & Field Ratings Index (TFRI) released Tuesday (May 19). The Pitt State women also captured the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Emporia, Kan.; and the Gorillas placed third last year at Pueblo, Colo. Pitt State is ranked No. 1 in the women's D2 TFRI.
Fifty-one Pitt State athletes – 26 women and 25 women – qualified for the national championships.
Several Gorillas will be in action on day one Thursday at Francis G. Welch Stadium.

Drew Wilhite (7001 pts) will compete in the men's decathlon at 10:30 a.m. (CDT). Chauchard qualified 2
nd in the multi events. Redshirt senior
Blakelee Winn (5719 pts), junior
Payton Phillips (5251 pts) and sophomore
Lily Brown (5103 pts) will compete in the women's heptathlon at 11 a.m. Winn is seeded No. 2 in the heptathlon with a best mark of 20-9.
Winn also will compete in the women's long jump at 5:30 p.m. She enters the event ranked No. 2, while junior
Jazmine Williamson (20-7.75) and sophomore
Brooklyn Baker (20-2.5) also will compete in the discipline.
Thursday's action also will feature pre-meet favorite
Jack Haukap (233-4) competing in the men's hammer throw at 12:30 p.m. and the Pitt State quintet of
Breanne Peters (14-0.5),
Isabelle Peters (13-8.5),
Cannon Booker (13-8.5),
Eva Williams (13-4.5) and
Quincey Turner (13-3.75) competing in the women's pole vault at 3 p.m.
Breanne Peters is ranked No. 1 in the discipline, while
Isabelle Peters and Booker are seeded fourth.
Several Gorillas will hit the track for qualifying races, including the men's 4x100m Relay of
Kemarri Stewart,
Braylon Thompson,
Logan Davis and
Ilias Garcia. The relay is the pre-meet favorite with a fast time of 39.38 seconds.
