EMPORIA, Kan. – Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes generated five more All-America performances on day two action of the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Friday (May 22).
Senior
Leo Chauchard and redshirt senior
Blakelee Winn punctuated the day's action with a pair of national runner-up efforts in the multi events. Chauchard placed second overall in the men's decathlon with a personal best 7,492 points, while Winn totaled 5,898 points in the women's heptathlon to claim a national runner-up finish as well.
The Pitt State women added a fifth-place All-America finish by junior
Payton Phillips in the heptathlon (5,352 pts); and the Pitt State men got a fifth-place All-America showing from freshman
Xavier Byers in the high jump (6-11.75) and a sixth-place All-America outing from freshman
Matthew Malmstrom in the decathlon (7,075 pts).
Jones secured back-to-back national crowns in the decathlon with a strong day two surge. He entered the day in fifth place but surged into the lead following the javelin throw and fended off his closest competitors in the 1,500 meters to finish 32 points ahead of his closest competitor - Azusa Pacitic's Lincoln Krog - with 7,639 points.
The Pitt State women maintained control of first place in the team standings Friday with 39 points, building a 17-point lead over second place competitors Colorado Mines (22) and Minnesota State (22). The Pitt State men climbed into second place overall thanks to the 15-point scoring day. The Gorillas now have 20 points to trail only day two leader Grand Valley State with 44 points.
In qualifying races, the men's 4x400m relay of
Woyn Chatman,
Nate Watson,
Logan Davis and
Caden Williams posted the fastest time of the day, 3:06.00, to set a new facility record at Francis G. Welch Stadium. The women's 4x400m relay of
Nikole Cozort,
Isabel Abdouch,
Kinleigh Hall and
Mikah Edwards also advanced to Saturday's finals with a time of 3:36.22.
Sophomore
Kayvon Nubine (13.412) and senior
Zyra Shivers (13.416) both advanced to the finals of the women's 100-meter hurdles Friday, posting the second and third-fastest times in qualifying.
Kiara Brown raced in the prelims of the women's 200m (23.73) but did not qualify to finals.
Eli Gilmore posted a time of 1:49.68 in the men's 800m, narrowly missing out on a qualifying slot.
Na'Koriyon James (14.20) and
Tyrone Jackson (DNF) bowed out in the prelims of the men's 110-meter hurdles.
Freshman
Alexa Binkley (40-2.75, PR), sophomore
Lily Brown (40-2.75) and senior
Makayla Pavelka (30-5) finished ninth, 10
th and 15
th in the women's triple jump. Brown also placed 13
th overall in the heptathlon (4,880 pts). Sophomore
Kelci Locke added a 21
st-place showing in the women's discus (131-3).
Junior
Brennan Boord (169-6) and redshirt sophomore
Drake Stapleton (164-5) finished 11
th and 17
th, respectively, in the men's discus.
Championship Saturday action gets under way at Noon (CDT) with the men's javelin competition. Action on the track fires up at 3 p.m.
