Warrensburg, Mo. – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team fell to No. 5 Central Missouri on Thursday (Sept. 30), 3-1.
In the first set the Gorillas and Jennies kept it close with the Jennies leading 18-15 in the set. Central Missouri would then go on a 7-1 run and eventually finish out the set 25-18.
Set two went the way of Pitt State with a 25-22 margin. The Gorillas fell behind 15-14 in the set just in time to go on a 11-6 run to round out the set, 25-22. With the match all tied up at one a piece the Jennies would take the third set 27-25 to take the lead 2-1. The Jennies outlasted the Gorillas in the fourth set, 25-14.
Junior outside hitter Meg Auten led the Gorillas with 15 kills and nine digs in the match. Junior setter Bri Richard tallied 43 assists on the night moving her season total up to 511 assists. Junior libero Marissa Bates had 30 digs and three assists against the Jennies.
The Gorillas next action comes on Friday, Oct. 8 when the squad will head to Emporia to take on Emporia State University in MIAA action. First serve with the Hornets is set for 6 p.m.
