HAYS, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team pushed No. 2 Fort Hays State University to the limit but the Lady Tigers fought off the Gorillas down the stretch for an 86-82 victory Saturday (Jan. 22) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
Jayme Jackson and Erin Davis combined to score 42 points to lead the Gorillas (11-7, 6-6 MIAA). Jackson scored a career high 22 points on eight of 10 shooting in the contest. She made four of six 3-point field goals. Davis added 20 points – her third 20-point outburst of the season. Karenna Gerber added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Gorillas.
Pitt State shot 57.9 percent from the field in the game, making 33 of 57 shots from the floor. FHSU (16-2, 10-2 MIAA) made just 47.6 percent (30-63) of its attempts, but the Lady Tigers outscored the Gorillas, 21-9, at the free throw line. FHSU made 21 of 29 charity shots, while PSU was limited to 9-11 shooting.
Katie Wagner paced FHSU with 20 points, while Jaden Hobbs (16), Whitney Randall (16) and Olivia Hollenbeck (14) also scored in double figures.
