ST. JOSEPH, MO. – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team won on the road Friday (Oct. 14) at Missouri Western State University, 3-1.
Graduate Outside Hitter Meg Auten reached her 1,000th kill in the victory for the Gorillas.
The Gorillas took the first set, 25-21, behind four kills from outside hitters Janae Thurston and Seville Gates 25-21. In a second set, Auten reached the 1,000 kill milestone with a kill to cut the Griffons lead to 9-7. The Griffons held on to take the second set, 25-20.
In the third set, Janae Thurston landed six kills to lead the Gorillas to a 25-12 win. In the fourth set, the Gorillas closed the match with two straight kills from Auten to win the set, 25-22, and take the match 3-1.
Auten, Thurston and Seville Gates all had double-digit kills for the Gorillas. Thurston led the way with 18 kills and had a .361 hitting percentage, while Auten had 17 kills and swung a .359 hitting percentage. Seville Gates added 12 kills on the evening. Setter Brianna Richard posted 48 assists, while Libero Marissa Bates led the defensive charge for the Gorillas by posting 19 digs.
The Gorillas (13-9, 7-6) are back in action Saturday (Oct. 15) as they travel to Warrensburg, Mo., to take on the No. 25 Jennies of Central Missouri. The first serve will be at 7 p.m. (CDT) in the Multipurpose Building.
