EMPORIA, KAN., − The Pittsburg State University volleyball team finished a two-day MIAA road trip with a 3-1 victory over the Hornets of Emporia State University Thursday (Oct.27) in White Auditorium.

The Gorillas got it started off of the arm of Meg Auten. The Manhattan outside hitter had six kills in the first set to lead the Gorillas to a 25-15 win. In set two, the Gorillas continued to ride the arm of Auten along with Carly Clennan. Auten had five kills while Clennan had four to lead the Gorillas to a 25-16 set two victory. In the third set, the Hornets avoided the sweep winning it 25-21. In set number four, the Gorillas shut the door behind the arms of Janae Thurston and Jerica Jackson. Thurston had five kills while Jackson had four kills in the set, as the Gorillas won 25-20, to finish the match at 3-1.

Meg Auten, Janae Thurston, and Phoenix Bailey had double-digit kills on the night for the Gorillas. Auten led with 15, Thurston had 13, Bailey had 12, and Freshman Jerica Jackson had a career-high nine kills on the night. Setter Bre Richard had another 50 plus assist night with 53 assists on the night. Meg Auten led in the digs department with 21 digs on the night.

The Gorillas will be back in action next Thursday (Nov.3) as they travel to Kearney, Neb., to take on the Lopers of Nebraska Kearney. The first serve will be at 6 p.m. (CDT).
