TOPEKA -- Guards Tristan Gegg and Grace Pyle combined for 44 points as the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team claimed an 83-75 victory over Rockhurst University in the Washburn Classic Friday (Nov. 18) at Lee Arena.

Gegg scored a team-leading 23 points in the contest, while Pyle fired in 21 points. The backcourt duo combined to hit 11 3-point field goals -- Gegg converted six of 12 long range shots and Pyle connected on five of 10 trifectas.

The Gorillas, who improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory, led 36-30 at halftime. Pitt State outscored RU (1-3) by eight points, 25-17, in the pivotal third period as the Gorillas stretched their margin to 14 points, 61-47.

Pitt State pushed its lead to 17 points early in the fourth quarter and RU never got any closer than the final eight-point margin.

Guard Harper Schreiner finished the game with six points, seven rebounds and nine assists for the Gorillas, while guard Sydney Holmes posted eight points in her season debut.

The Hawks got a game high 24 points from Keegan Sullivan.

Pitt State will wrap up the two-day tournament with a 1 p.m. (CST) game against Southern Nazarene University Saturday (Nov. 19).
