TOPEKA — The Southern Nazarene University women's basketball team rushed out to a 17-6 lead and never looked back in handing the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team its first loss of the season Saturday (Nov. 19).
The Crimson Storm got 18 points from Cassandra Awatt, 14 from Georgia Adams and 12 from Hannah Giddey in the contest. Adams and Giddey both posted double doubles as Adams grabbed 10 rebounds and Giddey snared a game high 12 boards.
Pitt State (3-1) made just 16 of 66 shots from the floor in the game, shooting a tepid 24.2 percent from the field in day two action of the Washburn Classic at Lee Arena.
Harper Schreiner led the way for the Gorillas with 20 points and six rebounds. Tristan Gegg added 14 points and Karenna Gerber finished the game with 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Gorillas will make their home debut next Wednesday (Nov. 23) when they entertain Saint Mary University at 5 p.m. (CST).
