PITTSBURG — Deshaun English II enjoyed a record breaking night and the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team ushered in the 2022-23 MIAA schedule with a 66-54 victory over Lincoln University Monday (Nov 28) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas (3-3, 1-0 MIAA) held the Blue Tigers (3-1, 0-1 MIAA) scoreless over the final 7:36 to break open a 54-54 game and pull away for the win.
English helped fuel the win with a monster night, posting 17 points and tying a 56-year old record with a game high 23 rebounds. Quentin Hardrict Jr. also poured in a game high 20 points, making eight of 13 shots from the floor in the game.
Pitt State made 13 of 28 shots in the second half to finish the game 24 for 55 (.436) from the floor. The Gorillas also were plus nine in the rebounding department (40-31) against LU.
Jeramy Shaw added 11 points for Pitt State, while Albert McBride finished with nine.
English tied the school rebound record set by Jim Chroust against the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 15, 1966.
Artese Stapleton paced the Blue Tigers with 18 points, while Kevin Kone chipped in with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Pitt State will return to action Thursday (Dec. 1) by hosting Missouri Western at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
