WICHITA — Tristan Gegg led four Pittsburg State University women's basketball players in double figures with 17 points as the Gorillas pulled away in the second half for an 81-58 victory over Newman University Wednesday (Dec. 7) at Fugate Gymnasium.

Pitt State (7-2, 3-1 MIAA) led by five points, 31-26, at halftime before breaking the game open with a 29-point third period against the Jets (4-4, 1-2 MIAA).

Gegg made six of 10 shots from the floor, including four 3-pointers, as Pitt State shot 46.7 percent from the field overall (28-60) in the contest.

Grace Pyle added 14 points, while Sydney Holmes came off the bench to add a season best 11 points. Harper Schreiner just missed a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds as the Gorillas finished the game +21 in rebounding margin (47-26). Pitt State owned a 13-4 advantage on the offensive glass.

Karenna Gerber and Erin Davis finished with nine points apiece. Gerber added eight rebounds and three assists after battling foul trouble in the first half.

Britney Ho led all scorers with 24 points to pace the Jets. Maddie Spagnola and Carissa Beck finished with nine points apiece for Newman.

Pitt State will return to action Sunday (Dec. 11) when the Gorillas travel to Edmond, Okla., to battle MIAA rival University of Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. (CST) at Hamilton Field House.
