Gorillas to Make Home Debut Against Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will make its home debut Tuesday (Feb. 15) when the Gorillas host Oklahoma Baptist University in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas will bring a 2-5 record into Tuesday's action. Pitt State dropped three games in Arkansas over the weekend, falling to GAC members Henderson State (13-3), Ouachita Baptist (10-9) and Southern Arkansas (6-3). OBU is 3-3 on the young season. The Gorillas and Bison met earlier this season with OBU claiming a 10-4 win over Pitt State on Feb. 7 at Edmond, Okla.

As a team, Pitt State is hitting .259 and scoring 6.2 runs per game. The Gorillas pitching staff has a 7.76 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 51.0 innings of work thus far.

Senior infielder Garrett McGowan leads the squad with a .375 batting average. He has collected two doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs and scored seven runs - all team highs. Senior outfielder Aaron Gerdes also is batting .353 with a home run and two RBIs.

Following Tuesday's action, Pitt State will host Wayne State College in a three-game series at Al Ortolani Field beginning Friday (Feb. 18).
