Lady Lions Turn Back Gorillas, 80-65


JOPLIN, Mo. — Madi and Lacy Stokes combined for 47 points to lead the Missouri Southern State University women's basketball team to an 80-65 victory over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Feb. 16) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Madi Stokes posted game highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Lacy Stokes chipped in with 22 points and seven assists for the Lady Lions (19-5, 16-3 MIAA), who posted their 12th consecutive victory with the win over the Gorillas (15-10, 10-9 MIAA).

MSSU shot 45.3 percent (29-64) from the field in the game and converted 21 of 24 free throws in the game. The Lady Lions also outrebounded the Gorillas 41-31.

Tristan Gegg paced Pitt State with 25 points and six rebounds. Sydnee Crain also finished in double figures with 10 points. The Gorillas shot 41.1 percent (23-56) overall.

The two squads will meet again Saturday (Feb. 19) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court in Pittsburg at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
