Lady Lions Hold Off Gorillas in Wild Battle, 77-74

PITTSBURG -- Lacy Stokes scored a game high 36 points to help spark the Missouri Southern State University women's basketball team to a 77-74 road victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Feb. 19) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

The Lady Lions (20-5, 17-3 MIAA) jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first half, but the Gorillas (15-11, 10-10 MIAA) battled back to turn the game into a back and forth affair in the final 20 minutes of play.

Jayme Jackson led four Pitt State players in double figures with 23 points. Erin Davis added 17 points and eight rebounds; Tristan Gegg finished with 14 points and eight assists; and Julia Johnson chipped in with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Gorillas had a pair of chances to knot the score in the game's final seven seconds but Sydnee Crain and Gegg both misfired on 3-point field goal attempts.

Stokes made 12 of 22 shots from the floor to pace MSSU. She added seven rebounds and seven assists. Amaya Johns and Layne Skiles added 10 points apiece for the Lady Lions.
