Gorillas to Host Wildcats in Three-Game Series Starting Saturday


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will host Wayne State College in a three-game series beginning Saturday (Feb. 19). The Gorillas and Wildcats will play single games Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
 
First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CST) Saturday at Al Ortolani Field, with 1 p.m. starts slated the next two days.
 
Pitt State will bring a 2-5 record into Friday's action with the Gorillas looking to halt a four-game slide. Pitt State dropped a 15-14 decision to Oklahoma Baptist University in the Gorillas' home opener Tuesday (Feb. 15).
 
The weekend series will mark the season debut for Wayne State. The Wildcats posted a 12-22 record in 2021.
 
Through seven games, the Gorillas are batting .279 as a team and scoring 7.3 runs per game. Pitt State's pitching staff carries an 8.25 ERA, while registering 56 strikeouts in 60.0 innings of work. The opposition is hitting .303 thus far and scoring 9.3 runs per game. Opponent pitchers have a 6.82 ERA.
 
Junior outfielder Jordan Maxson leads the Pitt State squad with a .400 batting average. He has three doubles and three RBIs on the young season. Senior infielder Garrett McGowan is hitting .345 with 10 runs scored, four home runs and 12 RBIs, all team highs.
 
Senior righthander Peyton Ingalls (0-1, 9.45 ERA), senior righthander Zach Curry (0-1, 9.00 ERA) and freshman righthander Paul Panduro (0-1, 9.72 ERA) have made two starts each on the mound for the Gorillas.
