PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games Sunday (Feb. 20) at the PSU Softball Complex. The Gorillas claimed a 13-1 run-rule victory over Winona State University before dropping an 8-3 decision to Drury University in the nightcap.
Pitt State (7-3) plated 13 runs on 10 hits in the contest. Keelah Griffith, Madison Szymanski, Kianna Pellegrino and Kori Stonestreet all smacked home runs as the Gorillas exploded for seven runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth inning.
Abby Atkin (4-1) scattered seven hits over 5.0 inning of work in the circle. She issued one walk and registered five strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Drury (5-5) plated three runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take control against Pitt State.
Szymanski and Taylor Lambert each drove in a run for the Gorillas. Hannah Harrison (1-2) was charged with the loss. She registered 10 strikeouts in the complete-game pitching effort.
