PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will open MIAA play Sunday (Feb. 27) when the Gorillas begin a three-game series against Missouri Southern State University.

The Gorillas and Lions will play a 1 p.m. (CST) doubleheader Sunday at Warren Turner Field and the squads will close out the series with a 3 p.m. game Monday (Feb. 28).

Pitt State will bring a 4-6 record into the weekend series. The Gorillas took two of three games in a home series against Wayne State College last weekend.

Missouri Southern is 7-5 overall and riding a four-game winning streak heading into the weekend action.

Through 10 games, the Gorillas are batting .301 as a team and scoring 7.9 runs per game. Pitt State's pitching staff carries an 8.05 ERA, while registering 81 strikeouts in 85.0 innings of work. The opposition is hitting .295 thus far and scoring 9.2 runs per game. Opponent pitchers have a 7.62 ERA.

Senior infielder Garrett McGowan is hitting .359 with 11 runs scored, six home runs and 16 RBIs, all team highs. He shares the MIAA lead in home runs with Northeastern State's Brock Reller and ranks fourth in the conference in RBIs.

Senior righthander Peyton Ingalls (1-1, 6.94 ERA), senior righthander Zach Curry (1-1, 6.55 ERA) and freshman righthander Paul Panduro (0-2, 14.00 ERA) have made three starts each on the mound for the Gorillas.
